WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORANGE AND PURPLE CARROTS?

The main difference between orange and purple carrots is their nutritional composition - given their carotenoid content (α - and β - carotene), food fibres, minerals, vitamins and polyphenols. So orange carrot contains more beta carotene and precursors in vitamin A synthesis than purple carrots. Unlike orange ones, purple carrots contain anthocyanin pigment, higher amounts of phenolic compounds and more vitamin C. All these compounds, especially anthocyanins, give purple carrots their very strong antioxidant properties.

Anthocyanins in purple carrots are strong antioxidants and help to protect the skin from harmful sun rays, so products containing purple carrots are important for preparing your skin before exposure to sunlight. Anthocyanins are able to regenerate skin and protect it from premature aging.

HOW SAFE IS THE PACKAGING OF BIOBAZA PRODUCTS?

The packaging we use for Biobaza cosmetic products is completely safe as we only have packaging that complies with the EU and CRO legislation for food, food contact materials, also complying with the Cosmetics Decree, and meeting these standards is, without doubt, our obligation. These are the strict regulations that prescribe the raw materials to be used for the production of packaging. We only get packaging for which the supplier/manufacturer can issue documentation confirming the compliance of the packaging itself with the legal regulations, as well as the raw materials from which it is manufactured. This has to be a composition of packaging material that will not affect the organoleptic/physical or chemical properties of the cosmetic product, or the results of the migration tests, heavy metal content, or health correctness; confirmation that the production takes place in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice or some other quality assurance standard. When choosing packaging, we take into account a number of parameters: the most important being the stability of the product itself because of the possible interaction between the finished product and the packaging; that the packaging protects the product from non-hygienic handling and is functional. It is very important to us that this packaging is also environmentally acceptable, meaning that the share of renewable materials from which it is made is high, that it is potentially recyclable packaging material which can be reused for packaging, or for secondary use, and to be undemanding on disposal after use with minimum environmental impact.

HOW CAN THE REPLACEMENT OF SPECIFIC PRODUCTS IN THE FORMULA AFFECT THE PRODUCT AND ITS QUALITY?

Every cosmetic product on the market must be safe for human health when used in normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use. We always try to use ingredients that provide care and are formulated to induce as few unwanted reactions as possible.

The development of Biobaza products always takes a long time because it includes the expansion of the existing production line as well as improvement of existing products. The product development process is focused on improving existing products and creating new ones, therefore, as a result of the intensive research work the product is adapted to the specific requirements, and the needs of the customer are complemented by new attributes to meet demanding consumer expectations.

In addition to the changes in the ingredients and formulation, the production process itself (mixing speed, temperature, fill quantity), packaging type, storage conditions and transport (stress conditions, etc.) can affect the product and its quality. The replacement of or change to the formulation ingredients to improve the product can have a small effect on the colour, smell, consistency or pH of the product. Of course, we replace individual ingredients to improve product quality and discreet changes in colour, odour, consistency or pH in relation to the existing product.

WHAT KINDS OF FRAGRANCE ARE USED IN BIOBAZA PRODUCTS?

According to EU and CRO legislation, the INCI name for the fragrant component and/or the aromatic substance is FRAGRANCE (in terms of the new legislation fragrance no longer exists, now referred to as AROMA or PARFUM). The name is the same, regardless of whether this component is natural or synthetic, and INCI does not differentiate. Biobaza does not use synthetic fragrances, but completely natural fragrance components that contain allergenic substances in amounts that do not cause irritation and sensitivity. For each fragrance component, Biobaza has an IFRA (International Fragrance Research Association) certificate issued by the manufacturer/supplier and Biobaza products dose the fragrance component in a way that the allergen substances are far below the maximum permissible in the finished product (up to 100x less than the maximum). Additionally, the natural fragrance components used in Biobaza products have documentation to suit FEMA/GRAS requirements (FASA - Flavour and Extract Manufacturers Association) and ISO 9235 for natural cosmetics.

What is the general physiology of human skin?

Skin is the largest organ of the body surface (about 16% of body weight) between 2 and 2.6 m2. Functionally, it is the most versatile organ of the human body and it is used as a border inside and out (cover organ). It provides protection against environmental effects and it is used for presentation and communication while protecting inner human balance. Besides that, skin takes over important functions in our metabolism and immunity fields and disposes of many adjustable mechanisms. Based on close connections with our psyche, it is called the “mirror of our soul“.

DOES SKIN BREATHE?

Women usually say that skin breathes better when they remove layers of cream or foundation. The truth is, oxygen and nutrients come in skin cells via the blood system, not from the air. However, through external layers, skin eliminates poisons, sweat, oils and absorbs moisture from the air, so a thicker layer of cream or foundation may prevent normal functioning of the skin. Regarding this, they prevent the normal absorption of substances and the elimination of harmful ones, but not the supply of oxygen.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF NATURAL COSMETICS?

Natural cosmetics are very trendy, and they are most often associated with products containing herbal raw materials (herbal oils and extracts, essential oils) or products that are not tested on animals. The advantage of natural cosmetics over commercial products is that they use natural ingredients, very similar to the composition of the skin. Skin recognizes substances from natural cosmetics, and builds them into their cells, which is not the case with synthetic ingredients. Besides that, commercial cosmetics contain preservatives so their products can be stored on shelves for a long time, but they often irritate skin and cause allergies.

ARE PRODUCTS WITHOUT PRESERVATIVES LONG-LASTING?

In order to prevent contamination by bacteria and fungi, the stability of products is increased by the exceptional hygiene in the preparation, filling and storage. They can have their pH value changed (slightly acidic pH prevents the growth of bacteria), various alcohols may be added that increase stability (benzyl alcohol acts as a natural preservative, ethanol derived from sugar cane acts as a disinfectant and as a natural preservative). Other additions include some essential oils (limonene and linalool are elements in almost all essential oils and they are natural preservatives), vitamin E or particular extracts (grapefruit seed extract, rosemary and forest lichen). The latter prevent contamination and guarantee a longer shelf-life (up to three years).

Unfortunately, there are no products that can greatly rejuvenate the skin. Due to the natural aging process, our skin becomes loose and the amount of lipids that lies beneath its surface decreases. The results are wrinkles and other visible signs of aging. Even the most expensive creams that are advertised as an elixir of youth cannot stop this process. However, some products can temporarily tighten, strengthen and moisturize the skin to look younger.

IS IT TRUE THAT A BIGGER AMOUNT OF CREAM INTENSIFIES ITS ACTIVITY?

HOW CAN THE AMOUNT OF NATURAL INGREDIENTS BE CALCULATED?

The percentage is calculated based on the share (%) of raw materials of natural origin according to the original certificates of the suppliers. For now there is no general and unambiguous definition, and there is no legislation in the EU, or even in the world, which regulates what are natural cosmetics and what are not. In 2010 COSMetic Organic Standard (COSMOS) was created in the EU for a common European regulation of natural cosmetics. Only the German association of manufacturers created their own less demanding and stringent standard of COSMOS. For the products in the EU that are imported from the United States the USDA Organic (USA) standard is used. According to these standards, for a cosmetic product to be considered natural it must fulfill the following conditions: the product must contain herbal raw materials (herbal oils, essential oils, plant extracts), raw materials obtained from minerals, they may not be tested on animals or contain raw materials with animal origin and must not contain genetically modified ingredients. Emulsifiers and surfactants derived from natural sources are allowed up to a certain limited amount. A natural cosmetic product should not contain synthetic fragrances, colors or preservatives, only certain nature-identical preservatives are allowed. Generally accepted EU standards agree that ingredients obtained chemically from natural sources are also considered natural ingredients, but the types of permitted chemical processes are prescribed. All raw materials must be legally purchased.

Biobaza cosmetic products meet all these requirements. The Biobaza line of natural cosmetics is produced from traditional recipes. It is a line of exclusive natural cosmetics of pharmaceutical quality made of high-quality natural ingredients. Biobaza products are not positioned as organic (or bio) cosmetics.

WHY CAN NATURAL COSMETICS ALSO CAUSE SKIN IRRITATIONS AND REDNESS?

Herbal extracts are very complex and contain many high-grade active ingredients. Scientists constantly examine the effectiveness and side effects of plant substances with pharmacological action and they are constantly coming up with new information on possible side effects. Furthermore, the skin is a very individual organ and it is prone to redness and allergic reactions. If you notice any skin redness or a tingling/burning feeling while using natural cosmetics it is probably because your skin does not combine well with some of the herbal ingredients or substances that are found naturally in certain plant extracts. The good news is that the skin is quickly restored and the normal process of renewal is initiated shortly after the irritation. If hypersensitivity and/or reactions occur, we advise you to stop using the product.
